Ear surgery, also known as otoplasy, improves the shape of the ear to correct the appearance of protruding ears. Specialized techniques may also improve deformities of the ear.
Ear surgery may be appropriate to achieve overall harmony among facial features, and to improve self-confidence for adults or children with projecting, overly large or deformed ears.
Specialized techniques with incisions inconspicuously placed inside or behind the ear create a natural appearance.
Generally outpatient, ear surgery is most commonly performed under local anesthesia with sedation.
Recovery depends on the extent of your ear surgery, and any accompanying procedures. You may engage in light activity the day after your surgery; a return to more normal activity may take 1-2 weeks. Your appearance will gradually refine over the following 4-6 weeks.
Proper skincare and sun protection are essential during healing. Results from ear surgery are generally permanent.
“We felt compelled to send an extra “thank you” your way! Please know how much we appreciated your willingness to come over and look at my face on a Saturday, (instead of adding to my anxiety and waiting for the office hours Monday) and then again on Sunday. Wow! Dr. Codner, you are a world-class surgeon with an “old school” work ethic, a combination rarely seen today within the elite medical community. So again, thank you for the “above and beyond” treatment I received while in your care.”
