Lower eyelid surgery restores a smooth, youthful appearance to the lower eyelid, and lower eyelid/cheek junction.

Cosmetic correction of the lower eyelid region, or lower blepharoplasty, restores a smooth, natural contour to the area beneath the eyes, by correcting puffiness and bags resulting in a more youthful appearance. Lower eyelid surgery may also improve a pronounced tear trough — a depression running from the inner corner of the eyes to the cheek. The midface can also be improved with a cheek lift or midface lift which can be performed for patients with malar bags or drooping of the midface.

Dr. Codner uses specialized techniques to correct the lower eyelid, including removing excess fat (if present) or repositioning of fat to avoid a hollow appearance. In order to maintain the natural shape of the eyelids, lower lid support is performed by tightening the lower lid muscle and the corner of the lid with a canthopexy or canthoplasty.

Generally outpatient, lower eyelid blepharoplasty is most commonly performed either under general or local anesthesia with sedation, and may require an overnight stay when combined with other procedures.

You may engage in light activity the day after your surgery. Depending on any accompanying procedures, a return to more normal activity may take 1-2 weeks. Your appearance will gradually refine over the following 4-6 weeks.

Proper skincare and sun protection including sunglasses, are essential during healing.

Results can be long-term, turning back the clock on your appearance from 8 to 10 years. Nothing can fully prevent aging, therefore natural aging will continue after your eyelid surgery.

“I want to thank you for all you have done for me and my eyes. Your patience, professionalism and expertise have made it a rewarding experience to be in your care. Words can’t express how much I appreciate everything you’ve done for me and for making me feel positive and important.” GAILA
